Signage is eternal
Can you list the industries that are essential to civilization?

What are the industries that are immune to industry collapse, advancements in technology, or to any changes in society for that matter?
If you didn't know this was a signage article in a signage blog, signage is probably the last one you would list. Realistically, you'd probably forget about it altogether. That's ok though, that's why I'm here!
Sign making dates back to roughly the beginning of civilization—it's that old. It was developed independently by eastern and western cultures, meaning it doesn't have one specific birth place, it's basically a natural extension of having a society—it's that necessary.
Food, shelter, clothing—and signage.
You have a business? You need signage.
Oh, your business is 100% online and you run it by yourself out of your house? If it's a physical good and you're shipping it—you need labels, inserts, or packaging, and all three are forms of signage.
Oh, it's an online service? Software? Maybe you don't even have a website and you sell exclusively through text posts on message boards (any graphic you use to promote your business online could qualify as a sign, but because you don't need a sign shop or print shop per se—just a graphic designer or web designer or a copy of MS Paint—I'll give you that one).
Even if that extremely specific example actually describes you, walk outside your front door and turn around to face your house or apartment. How do you find your residence? How do you know that's your front door and not someone else's? Familiarity with your surroundings aside (pretend you're a stranger trying to find the place for the first time), the answer is signage. You have a number—your address—affixed to the outside of your residence. That's signage, baby!
So even if you DON'T own a business, you need signage. Having a business just necessitates MORE signage.
Signage touches ALL industries. Wherever you go, wherever you work, there is signage.
It's immune to collapse and, on the flip side, progress. One industry disappears? All of the others still need signage. New industry pops up? That'll need signage too.
As long as there are stores, there is signage. As long as there are roads, there is signage. As long as there are houses, there is signage.
Signage is so abundant that your mind starts to ignore a good chunk of it. If you actually stop in any one spot and look around for all the signage you can possibly list, you'll be surprised how much you're forgetting about, and the list will be much longer than you originally thought it would be.
That's not to say that signage you're overlooking isn't necessary—it absolutely is—it's to say that signage is SO necessary that it's in more places than your brain would like to register at any given time.
This information may not come as a revelation to you, maybe you're well aware. But I would bet most of you probably forgot, or never realized to begin with. And either way, this is your PSA:
You. Need. Signage.
And you can get it from us: SunDevilSignage.com
